How Does AI Shape Your Future?

One of the things we have covered a lot lately is the impact of AI. It is inevitable and we should all start to embrace it, play with it, learn what it can and can’t do, and figure out how to use it for our work as a resource, not a replacement.

My favorite uses for ChatGPT thus far have all been personal. I used it to write a poem on someone’s birthday (sorry, Hallmark), and have used it to write something entertaining when I have something too big to fit under the Christmas tree which I needed to do twice this year. Truck bed covers and couches just don’t wrap well, but the AI poems were very entertaining –and good! The other way I have used it is to help with vacation planning. If you tell it what you are looking for, with some clear guidelines, it can help you pick a hotel or plan an itinerary. While well beyond my capabilities I have a friend who uses it to write simple code in graphic design or website work.

Today, was my day to write a blog and I wondered…what if I experimented with ChatGPT? I already had my topic and key points and was curious if what it came up with would even be usable? So, I plugged in the headline and subtopics and in less than a minute, the blog below appeared.

The question is how well did it do? Here is my opinion but I would like to hear yours!

  1. It covered the topics well, including many of the points I had planned to make.
  2. It is articulate and well organized.
  3. It doesn’t list any sources so what gives the advice credibility?
  4. Interestingly, and a little scary, it used words I use often that many don’t like Growth Mindset and Harness. Hmmm…was that a coincidence?
  5. It is written at a fairly high level without a lot of examples or practical application that comes from experience. It isn’t as actionable.
  6. It doesn’t have a voice or personal perspective, so it feels somewhat impersonal. Maybe more like an article than a blog. 

Bottom line: While it helps suggest content, the writer needs to evaluate the value of it and tailor it to the audience, adding the examples and personal context to make it truly actionable.
